The community of Northampton, Massachusetts has been cracking down on people living homeless who have resorted to panhandling [click here to read an article concerning panhandling] as a means of support with which to subsist upon.

Controversy has arose in response to the campaign co-sponsored by the city and Northampton Chamber of Commerce being waged against panhandling by people living homeless in the region.

Wilton Hall, a Northampton resident whom is a former panhandler himself, has teamed up with another area resident to create a counter-campaign. The counter-campaign's efforts and work has legs both on the ground as well as online.

Employing humor and satirical spin on the city's campaign, Wilton and Vikki Gilbert, a writer from Amherst, came up with "Friends of the Tourists [click here to visit the counter-campaign Website]."
